New Rivals Coming To Town
By Daniel Dessinger | November 4, 2007
ESPN reported early Saturday morning that the Seattle Supersonics’ new owner informed the NBA on Friday of his intention to move the team to Oklahoma City.
Nothing is guaranteed at this point. The Supersonics are still in litigation with the city of Seattle, but they sound ready to move whenever the opportunity arises. That could be next year or when their current lease expires in Seattle.
Should the Sonics move to Oklahoma City, they would become the closest NBA rival the Mavericks have ever had. A short three and a half hour drive (3 hrs flat the way I drive) is all takes to get from one city to the other. And with Kevin Durant drawing so much attention to the franchise, we have the makings for a great new rivalry… an NBA Red River Shootout, if you will.
It would definitely be a refreshing change of pace to have a different rival than the Spurs or Rockets. We’ll keep you updated on the latest news of Sonics relocation.
